Andrew moved to Dovecote in March 2021 following an admission to an acute mental health ward. Due to the impact this had on his wellbeing, returning to his previous home was not an option. Andrew arrived at Dovecote with a clear goal: to focus on his recovery, sell his old property, and eventually move into a new home closer to his family — somewhere he could feel happy, settled, and supported.

With the help of the dedicated team at Dovecote, Andrew began making steady progress. He engaged fully in his rehabilitation plan and reached a significant milestone by achieving Stage 6 medication management. This meant Andrew was confidently ordering his medication from his GP completely independently — a key indicator of the progress he had made in managing his health.

Throughout his placement, Andrew also excelled in daily living skills. He consistently demonstrated his ability to cook meals, do his food shopping, and maintain a regular exercise routine — all independently. These everyday achievements built his confidence and reinforced his readiness for the next stage of his journey.

By December 2023, after nearly three years of hard work, commitment, and support from the Dovecote team, Andrew was ready to move on. He had successfully secured accommodation in the community and made a smooth transition to independent living — much closer to his family and to the life he had envisioned when he first arrived.

Andrew’s story is a testament to the power of recovery, and how personalised, compassionate support can pave the way toward lasting independence. Everyone at Aspire is proud to have been part of his journey.
