Jane's History
Jane, 40, spent 15 years living in various care settings, where she struggled to make meaningful progress towards greater independence and remained subject to significant restrictions under her Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards order (DoLS).
Four years ago, Jane moved to Goldhill House - since then, she has worked closely with her support team to build her confidence, develop new skills, and work towards greater independence.
Jane's Progress
Through hard work and determination, Jane has successfully completed all of her Activities of Daily Living (ADL) assessments, including cooking, cleaning, budgeting, laundry, and personal care. She has also achieved self medication management and secured a volunteering job in the community.
One of Jane's greatest achievements has been coming completely off her DoLS order. For the first time in 15 years of receiving care, all restrictions have been lifted, allowing her to access the community independently three times a week and spend time with family without staff support. This began with positive risk taking, and has led to a significant increase in her independence and freedom.
Jane's Care
As part of our care and rehabilitation approach, we believe restrictions should only remain in place for as long as they are necessary. By helping people build skills, confidence, and independence, we aim to reduce restrictions wherever possible, giving residents greater choice, freedom, and control over their lives.
Jane Today
"For many years, I have lived in care homes. I never thought the day would come where I would have no restrictions and not require DoLS. I feel more confident than ever."
"I now work during the weekdays, and I meet my family three times a week without needing staff to be with me. Since I came to Goldhill House, I have lost a lot of weight, which was my main goal when I arrived. I have also completed all of my ADL (Activities of Daily Living) assessments, and I can cook for myself now. "
Jane's next goal is to move to our sister service, Jubilee House, where she hopes to live in her own flat and continue her journey towards even greater independence.
