Conrad's History Conrad is a young man diagnosed with Schizophrenia. He first came to the attention of mental health services in early 2023, following a significant deterioration in his mental health. Prior to this, Conrad had no involvement with mental health services and was living at home and working full-time. His initial episodes were marked by severe psychological distress, including psychotic symptoms, disrupted sleep, self-neglect, and social withdrawal. Conrad required inpatient care on two occasions during 2023. These admissions were precipitated by non-compliance with medication, which had a significant impact on his wellbeing.

Despite these challenges, Conrad responded well to structured treatment and showed a clear desire to return to stability. With appropriate medication, support, and engagement, he demonstrated insight and motivation to move forward with his recovery. Conrad’s Admission

Following his discharge from hospital in March 2024, Conrad spent a short period at home before joining Jubilee House in May 2024. He had already visited the service and expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity for recovery in a supportive, structured environment. His goals included maintaining his mental health, building independence, and returning to employment. Conrad’s Care

From his first day at Jubilee House, Conrad showed commitment to building a healthier and more structured life. He quickly adapted to the routine and responded positively to staff support, developing good insight into his mental health needs.

A major focus of his recovery has been returning to work — a personal goal that Conrad pursued with determination. With encouragement from staff, he independently updated his CV, applied for jobs, and attended interviews.

Conrad Today

Conrad has now been working full-time at a recycling plant for four weeks! He is now a valued member of the team, helping sort recycling and prevent plastics from going to landfill. He cycles to and from work each day, stays physically active, and maintains a positive routine. His self-care has improved significantly, and he is managing his medication independently and consistently. Conrad also enjoys martial arts and going to the gym, and is beginning to explore friendships and social activities again — developing both his confidence and independence. Conrad’s journey over the past year is a powerful example of what can be achieved with the right support, structure, and personal motivation. From his first hospital admission to full-time work and supported living, he has made incredible progress in a short space of time.

His future plans include securing his own accommodation and exploring opportunities for further training or apprenticeship.
